You may have the best safety vest available but if it is not worn properly you may not get the most value from it. Safety vests are worn just like any vest. However, you should make sure that the reflective strips are clearly visible. Make sure that they are facing outward and not obstructed by tool belts or other garment pieces. The vest should not be left open. It should always be fastened securely.
Make sure that your safety vest fits you perfectly. You also want to ensure that your vest is not so loose that it can catch on anything. The bright colors that we find in safety vests are not just for aesthetic reasons. ANSI standards address what colors allow for the highest visibility in various levels of light, and how brightly those colors register against different backgrounds. Bright orange and lime green are the safety-approved colors.
