This is another effective device made famous by the Japanese. A kubaton is a small stick made of aluminum, wood, plastic, rock or other material that is about five inches long and half an inch in diameter. It is meant to be grasped fully with a little bit of protrusion from the fist. It may or may not be sharpened. The important thing is that it has ridges to provide a more secure hold when performing defensive strikes. They are oftentimes disguised as key chains or keepsakes to be able to get through security.
When used properly, a kubaton can be a devastating weapon potentially able to seriously injure and incapacitate an attacker. It should only be used in situations that are serious and life threatening. It is also important to train on how to use it. It is critical that you know how to prepare and grip the weapon as well as how and where to strike an assailant for maximum effectiveness. You can seek the help of a kubaton instructor or teach yourself the basic skills from a manual.
