How to be Prepared for a Disaster

No matter how much we prepare, we can never be fully ready for a disaster. Even if there is an efficient emergency system in the community it can often take time before help arrives because of the magnitude of the disaster. It is up to us to take initiative in providing alleviating solutions for our family and neighbors. A kit that will be useful in treating minor injuries should be number one in your list. It should include medication, cleaning agents and tools such as scissors and cutters.

Food and water should be just as important. Make sure that there is at least 3 day’s supply of drinking water and food that will not require preparation for all members of the family including pets. If the disaster robs you of any form of shelter, folding cots will be a good enough solution to accommodation problems. Find a safe place in which to set it up, preferable on level ground and under a safe shade. Having blankets to go along with it will make life a little bit better for everyone.
