Emergency lighting

In the event of failure of normal lighting, alternative measures are required for security purposes. Emergency lighting should be installed to provide initial illumination. These units are normally battery-type equipment that serves as backup for regular lights. There are different kinds of emergency lighting. Batteries are microsystems that light up each lighting unit. These are self-contained. Some lighting systems are powered from a central battery. Others have special conversion centers that convert fluorescent lighting for emergency use.

Certain places have been identified as needing emergency lighting. These are

~Stairway area
~Near changes of direction
~Intersection of corridors
~Exit doors
~Near each piece of fire-fighting equipment or manual call points
~First Aid points Other areas that will profit from emergency lighting are elevators and moving walkways, toilets and pedestrian routes within a covered car park.
