There are so many possible emergencies that we have to prepare for. Recent events have shown us how floods, earthquakes, fires and natural disasters can be devastating. It can wipe out a family’s dwelling in minutes. It can destroy lives unnecessarily. It has taught us to prepare for these emergencies in the best way we can. We can never be fully prepared for these emergencies, but at least we can try and take steps to be able to alleviate discomfort when it happens. The first step is to provide emergency preparedness kits. Because we can never predict where disaster will strike, we should have them in our homes, cars, offices and schools.

Emergency experts suggest that these kits should contain emergency food, water, shelter, sanitation, lighting, communication and rescue supplies. Once we have these kits in place, we should also make a plan on how to act in times of crisis. The plan should include members of the family including pets.
