Last summer I went on an Asian holiday. Among the countries I’ve visited are Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. In the Philippines, there’s this group of people who look like aborigines that use blowguns to hunt. They are pretty good with it.They can hit a target no bigger than a pocket book some 20 feet away. The blowguns are made of bamboo.
After the show, the aetas – the name of the aborigines like tribes people, would go around selling the blowguns they had made. From the same bamboo, they also made a whistle that imitates one of the bird species that they hunt. The blowguns including the whistle cost me less than $5 dollars. I bought two blowguns, one for me the other I’ll give to my nephew who loves weapons. I tried practicing with it in the hotel. I managed to stick the dart in the door some ten feet away. I still don’t have the capacity to blow a dart 20 feet. After that, I need to learn how to be accurate so I can hit my mark.
