“It could happen to me”. This is the thought that keeps on residing in a pilot’s subconscious. This is why he constantly brings an aircraft survival kit in the event of a crash in the wilderness. Even though a good quality knife and a fire starter could be considered the most basic kit, it won’t hurt to carry other stuff to give your survival rate a higher percentage. This kit should be able to provide medical care, shelter and warmth, signal markers to attract rescue and sustenance.
An aircraft survival kit should have the following characteristics:
~Vacuum-sealed in foiled packets
~Durable, usable and of high quality
~Compact and designed to stand up to the most adverse weather conditions
~Lightweight but could provide essentials for survival until rescue arrives
~Food and water rations have a shelf life of 5 years
